The world of comics is an overall colorful, upbeat place that leaps up out of the page and slams itself against your eyeballs every month. Tragedy is something that never sticks to a superhero. Spiderman lost Gwen Stacey but got to bang Mary Jane after all. Batman had his parents violently murdered in front of his eyes when he was a kid but he got to be Batman, which balances out. But the Hulk has never caught a break. Not. Even. Once. The Hulk just abides and endures, like a Gamma-Powered Jesus or a mean, green Big Lebowski.

I’m, like, always angry, man

You wouldn’t think of that, not if you’ve seen him toss a god-alien around like a ragdoll. Most of you probably think the Hulk just punches shit and screams in the third person. What has the Hulk ever been through that’s so terrible, you ask? Why, nothing less than…

Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of friending Chris Gavaler, a nerd scientist extraordinaire and fellow spandex enthusiast. I also had the even greater pleasure of going through his blog, which focuses on the superhero mythos, ideal and trivia in ways my blog wishes it could.

But it’s gonna.

I had proposed a collaboration with Mr. Gavaler, which was held back due to personal matters on my behalf and will be thankfully completed in full in the near future (mostly because I hate letting the cool people I meet down).

So instead of the original collaborative article aiming to serve as a beginner’s primer to the DC and Marvel cosmology, what you’re going to get instead is (what I hope is going to be) a joint list of

An Interview with artists Valium (Valia Kapadai) and Paulnaut (Pavlos Pavlidis

Back in the 90's Greece was not a very nerd-friendly place. As I mentioned back in my Metabarons Retrospective, there were hardly any comic books worth reading and there weren't any comic book artists worth following (with the exception of a very small number of hardened artists who were thought as mad art hermits.

When the 00's roled in however, this changed. You see, a small group of aspiring artists and creators had been born in the 80's, lurking in the darkest corners of the country, hidden in cultural and social shadows, until they collectively burst from their coccoons and gave us hope.

Below is a two-part video of an interview I got from both Valia and Pavlos at the Tilt Comics bookstore (who invited me for this event). But since most of you reading this are not native Greek speakers, I've arranged for the interview questions to be transcribed in English by the creators themselves

Because the rest of the world deserves love, too.
